Political Science
Major Details
The Political Science curriculum is designed to equip students with basic and advanced information about political life in this country and abroad; conceptual, communication and methodological skills; normative and analytic theories with which to study contemporary and emerging public issues; and an awareness of how political science relates to the other social sciences and the humanities.
Political Science provides numerous opportunities for students to extend their learning beyond the classroom, including through study abroad and internships with a wide variety of governmental, political, legal, and non-profit entities. Many majors partake in extracurricular activities such as the Mock Trial and Model United Nations teams and the distinctive Model APEC simulation. Majors belong to groups such as the Political Science Student Association and Pi Sigma Alpha (the undergraduate national honor society in political science).
The flexible structure of the Political Science major allows for and encourages multiple areas of study. Free electives enable students to pursue a minor, certificate program or even complete a second major. Some of the most common pairings are listed below:
