Professional Summary
Dr. Kenneth L. Ghee was born in Harlem, New York in 1956 and raised in Trenton, New Jersey. In 1974 he earned an academic scholarship and in 1978 his B.A. degree in Psychology from Boston University. He went on to earn the Masters degree in 1981 and his Ph.D. in Health & Social Psychology at the University of Houston in 1983. Dr. Ghee came to the University of Cincinnati in 1985 with joint appointments in the Departments of Internal Medicine and Psychology. He was tenured in Psychology in 1993. After 23 years in the Department of Psychology at the University of Cincinnati, he is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Africana Studies. Over the years, Dr. Ghee has received numerous teaching and community service awards including the "Emphasis on Diversity Award" and the "Outstanding Faculty Award" from UC Student Organizations. In 1992, Dr. Ghee was awarded the All-University George Barbour Award for outstanding faculty-student relations in and outside the classroom at the University of Cincinnati. Dr. Ghee is recognized as a dynamic lecturer and he is a popular professor at UC. He was featured in the 1998 University of Cincinnati Information View Book and in 1999 he was featured in the Admissions Office Recruitment brochure, in an article entitled "Your Favorite Professor". In 2001 he received the "Just Community" Award for promoting the ideals of a just and caring community. In 2006 Dr. Ghee was awarded the All-University A.B. Dolly Cohen Award for excellence in University Teaching and the 2006 Edith C. Alexander Award for Distinguished Teaching. He also was recognized by the Department of Athletics with the 2006 Simon Anderson Award for his longstanding work with student athletes. Dr. Ghee also developed and co-directs the PR1ZE program (Putting Retention 1st in the Zest for Excellence) in the college of Arts and Sciences to foster and promote retention and graduation for under-served students.

Research Interests
Psychosocial influences on achievement motivation; cultural identity development; community and media-based youth intervention methods with educational and cultural applications for at-risk and disadvantaged youth; cultural mythology and the role of media and popular culture in the social learning process.
