The Department of Mathematical Sciences offers a broad spectrum of educational opportunities at all levels from BA to PhD. Our programs prepare students for a wide variety of careers in fields such as statistical analysis for banks, insurance companies, and medical research, financial analysis, and K12 or higher education. Our faculty includes internationally acclaimed experts in analysis, biomathematics, cryptography, financial mathematics, partial differential equations, probability, and statistics.

Student research opportunities begin at the undergraduate level with the opportunity to work with a faculty member as part of their capstone experience; and continue through to the MS and PhD levels, where extended research projects frequently lead to journal publication and both domestic and international trips to study at workshops or to present results at conferences. At the graduate level a variety of active research seminars take place weekly and students get the opportunity to mingle with top researchers right here at UC.

Our summer graduate program, Master of Arts for Teachers of Mathematics (MAT), has been running for many years, bringing in local school teachers for a 3-year content-focused master's degree.

Our department maintains close ties with the local community, offering students the opportunity to intern at local businesses and government agencies. We have a number of international collaboration agreements with universities around the world which have led to exchanges of both faculty and students. Consider supporting our students and mission through the Mathematical Sciences Department’s scholarships and endowment funds.
