The University of Cincinnati Department of Journalism offers comprehensive journalism education in an urban environment with experiential learning opportunities and individualized relationships with faculty mentors.

Students have multiple experiential learning opportunities year round with professional internships, student media and hands-on Journalism classes.
Camri Nelson is a multimedia journalist (MMJ) with Spectrum News 1 Ohio, based in Cincinnati. She is a native of the Queen City and an alumna of UC. Since graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism, she has worked as a business reporter for the Lima News and then as a MMJ for Your Hometown Stations, a FOX/NBC/ABC/CBS-affiliated television station located in Lima. While in Lima, Camri was the recipient of the 2017 Ohio Associated Press Best Business Writer Award and the Lima/Allen County Chamber of Commerce Young Leader of the Year Award, and was named to the Ohio School Boards Association Media Honor Roll. As a student writer for the University of Cincinnati’s College of Arts & Sciences, she published stories that highlighted alumni careers.
Jazmon DeJarnette is a third-year student at the University of Cincinnati studying Journalism with a minor in Sports Administration. After graduation, she plans to pursue a career in sports reporting. Tragedies happen every day in our world, and Jazmon’s focus is on how sports can be an outlet for positivity and hope. As Jazmon tells people: “Sports were my escape as a little girl and built lasting traditions in my family. I'm also super passionate about writing and enjoy the creativity that comes along with storytelling. I'm grateful for what our journalism program has taught me about myself and I am thrilled to see where this journey takes me!”

With the 2025-26 school year in full swing, the College of Arts and Sciences has welcomed five faculty members to lead departments that span from chemistry to journalism. Dean James Mack said these new hires “reflect our unwavering commitment to ‘Discovery in Action,’ as we continue to enhance our academic and research excellence”. With these additions, the future of UC is in good hands, and students can look forward to new opportunities for learning, research, and innovation.
