The English Department presents robust offerings in Literary and Cultural Studies in areas including British literature, American Literature, African American Literature, Jewish Literature, Medical Humanities, Disability Studies, and Environmental Literature. Literature and culture studies faculty are pedagogues, researchers and writers who publish books, articles, and edited volumes and who participate in innovative research, university-level program design, and conference hosting. Numerous honors and recognitions for teaching and research include NEH and Fulbright awards.

For undergraduate students, we offer a Literary and Cultural Studies track within the English major. The English Education track designed specifically for students pursuing degrees from the College of Education aligns closely with it. Undergraduate students may also enroll in LCS-based certificates including medical humanities and disability studies or in related certificates in the department or college including literary journalism, professional writing, and environmental studies.

For graduate students, we offer an MA and a PhD. Graduate students are encouraged to seek out mentorship from literature and culture studies faculty and to consider both breadth of knowledge across literary and culture studies and depth of knowledge within specific areas. Graduate students may also elect to pursue certificates.
