About the Center for Truth, Community Healing & Transformation at UC
The Center for Truth, Community Healing and Transformation (CTCHT) (formerly known as the Center for Truth, Racial Healing and Transformation) was established in 2020 to address social injustice through research and community dialogue. Despite the name change, these objectives remain central to the goals of the Center. Today, CTCHT fosters hope, connection, and growth among the campus and Cincinnati community.
The Center is housed in the School of Public and International Affairs at the University of Cincinnati. It is supported through the UC College of Arts and Sciences Action Collaborative. The Center’s mission and vision reflect UC’s strategic direction Next Lives Here, of which inclusive excellence is a cornerstone.
To activate a broad network of campus and community partners, united in courage and compassion, that leverage their resources, experiences, and expertise to collaboratively create the possibility of an abundant life for all.
CTCHT seeks to:
- Support organizational capacity building among non-profit organizations working to advance justice and meet pressing public needs;
- Co-produce applied research and programming with community partners that advances democratic principles and evidence-based decision-making.
- Repair social division through counter-cultural practices that create spaces of healing, connection, and resilience.
- Compassion: Being moved to the point of action on behalf of those who are struggling and suffering around us.
- Humility: The death of pride and the willingness to continue the work of social justice even when it doesn’t come with applause.
- Courage: The boldness to stand up, stand out and do things differently on behalf of those who are socially and economically marginalized.
- Collaboration: When we work together, we can always accomplish more than we can apart.
- Grace: The ability to extend generosity even when it is costly to do so.
- Equity: It’s good for homeowners, and it’s necessary for any stable society that stands on democratic principles.
- Evidence: Rigorous scientific research still matters and the evidence it produces should inform public decision-making.
