Professional Writing

Professional writers are the bridge between art and science. They are the artists who bring to life the science of business, technology, discoveries, and world events. They are the storytellers who translate complex phenomena to a target audience, connecting ideas and people.

Professional writers do more than just put words on paper. They design. They create. They promote. They edit. They analyze. They construct ideas. They illustrate characters. They deliver results. You can be a professional writer. You can learn to harness the creative power of verbal and visual discourse. You can employ new technologies in designing effective communication. You can go beyond words.

Undergraduate students pursuing the BA in English — Rhetoric and Professional Writing create an ePortfolio in the Introduction to Professional Writing course and then add to it throughout their required RPW coursework. Many of our courses work with real clients, so RPW undergraduate students graduate with a portfolio of work that showcases their skills in writing, design, and editing. For undergraduate students in other English tracks or majors, the professional writing certificate is an excellent complement to increase the marketability of your writing skills in any field.

Graduate students pursuing the MA in Professional Writing deepen their work in professional writing to apply it to specific fields and industries.
