Hands coming together to form a circle

Center for Truth, Community Healing & Transformation

Truth: Truth is the standard- the mirror through which we see ourselves, our communities, and our institutions as they are.  It is the stinging antiseptic for the infected wound of a dehumanizing society.  We pursue truth, speaking it to power and speaking it in love through our policy advocacy and justice-driven initiatives.

Healing:  Healing requires a careful consideration of the type(s) and source(s) of harm and the patterns of its effects.  We believe that individual and community healing are intertwined, and we invite students, faculty, and the broader Cincinnati community to examine the experiences and influences that have shaped their own worldviews.  Through our activities and events, we facilitate the interpersonal connections and cross-cultural exposures that foster healing.

Transformation:  Transformation generally requires, perhaps ironically, both effort and submission. Effort looks like showing up and engaging despite inconvenience and discomfort.  Submission is surrendering to that which is outside of your control and imagination— the conscious “letting go” in the wave without the freefall into philosophical oblivion.  We spark transformation through programming that resensitizes us to the experiences of those around us and to ourselves.  Through our events and community partnerships we spark transformation that shifts social narratives, intergenerational cycles, and campus and community culture.

To some, these terms (Truth, Healing and Transformation) may seem “soft” and “fluffy”, but to those who think this we say ‘look around’.  In a broken, angry and hurting world that many believe is actively collapsing, nothing could be more serious, more difficult, or more urgent.

“The truth does not change according to our ability to stomach it.”

Flannery O'Connor
