Geography Graduate Student Association

The GGSA is the Geography branch of the official Graduate Student Government. GGSA meets a few times a semester to discuss important departmental and grad school updates as well as foster professional development. We get together for fun social events such as trivia nights, Halloween parties or football games. We are also involved in the undergrad Geography Club and the planning of GIS Day.

I am a PhD student in Geography at the University of Cincinnati. In my Master’s research, I focused on crime geography, examining how street network structures affect property crime patterns using GIS and spatial network analysis. My research interests include integrating population mobility data with spatial modeling to study urban dynamics. I aim to contribute to research that informs evidence-based urban planning and policy.

I am a PhD candidate in Geography whose dissertation applies spatial modelling techniques and ecological knowledge to examine the relationship between bird habitat and urbanization. My research focuses on the habitat requirements of a keystone bird species, the pileated woodpecker, and addresses critical gaps by developing practical tools to support decision-making in urban habitat planning and management. Key themes of my work include quantifying habitat selection, assessing habitat connectivity, and evaluating future habitat quality and availability under different land-use change scenarios.
