After a proposal is submitted, and the sponsor intends on making an award, the sponsor will notify either the PI or the Sponsored Research Services office. Sometimes, this is referred to as the “Just-In-Time (JIT) Stage” or it can also be called “Intent to Award Stage” and is the opportunity for the sponsor to ensure all compliance requirements are in place.
During the JIT or Intent to Award Stage, the agency may ask the PI(s) to reduce their budget and provide additional documentation, among other considerations.
Because this is the transitional time between pre- and post-award, this is the time that the Sponsored Research Services takes over to officially accept the award on behalf of the University. The Department Administrator and SRS collectively handle post-award administration. The A&S Pre-Award Services Office will offer any necessary guidance through this process.
