About the Master's Program
While all sociology departments agree on many features of training that reflect the fundamentals of the discipline, each chooses certain specialties for emphasis, and each reflects the particular traditions of its university. This department issues this summary to aid the prospective student in understanding its structure and its procedures.
The department offers a few different MA options. Students admitted to the PhD program who do not already have an MA, will earn one along the way (see PhD requirements). Undergraduate students majoring in sociology at the University of Cincinnati can apply to the BA/MA (4+1) program, which will let them earn a Master's in Sociology with one additional year of study (see BA/MA requirements). The department also offers a terminal one-year Master's in Sociology (see MA requirements).
Students interested in the MA as their final degree, should contact the Director of Graduate Studies before applying. If admitted, such MA students are not eligible for funding.
