Bea Opengart was born in Oregon and raised in Arizona and Southern California. She began college The University of California at Berkeley and, after a working hiatus during which she explored offset printing, she completed her Bachelor of English degree at The University of Arizona in Tucson. She earned an MFA in Poetry Writing at The University of Iowa and began her teaching career as a poet in the schools of Kentucky where she remained for eight years, working in the Poetry in the Schools program and teaching English Composition at the University of Kentucky and Transylvania University. Since 1989 she has taught English Composition and Poetry Writing at the University of Cincinnati. Besides keeping current in the field of English Composition and studying and writing poetry, Bea is interested in the history of the early Soviet era in Russia, and also in Poland.
