Women's Studies students pursue careers in social service, education, the arts, business, politics, and law, to name a just a few. According to a national study, Women's Studies Graduates: The First Generation, graduates engage in a "potpourri of occupations--from aviator to union organizer." They find that their knowledge of gender issues and perspectives provides a significant advantage in working in many diverse areas. These graduates and our own report that the internship experiences, critical consciousness, and analytical, writing, and oral skills they receive in Women's Studies courses uniquely prepare them for a wide variety of occupations where they can make a difference. Our internship program offers students a valuable opportunity to explore career opportunities and connect with potential employers, including members of our Friends of Women's Studies community support organization. The Department produces a regular Bulletin (155 KB) that lists job openings, study abroad programs, and upcoming conferences and events around the country and world. It also posts such opportunities on its bulletin board outside its offices on the first floor of McMicken Hall. Some students continue in higher education, pursuing professional degrees or graduate degrees in Women's Studies or in other disciplines with a specific focus on gender issues. Several students who have completed our Undergraduate Certificate program have continued in our graduate program either pursuing our MA in Women's Studies or our MA/JD joint degree program in Women's Studies and Law. |
