What is the Graduate Certificate
of Concentration?

Students enrolled in other graduate degree programs at UC or non-degree
seeking graduate students with an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 can
complete a Certificate of Concentration in Womens Studies, which
consists of three core courses and two electives.
Core Courses (4 quarter-credit
hours each): sample

Introduction to Graduate Women's Studies
(may be waived for
students demonstrating Womens Studies background)
Feminist Theory: Foundations
One of the following three courses:
Feminist Theory: Race/Class/Nation
Feminist Theory: Global
Feminist Theory: Contemporary Issues
Two WS electives in the students field
of interest at least 6 credits.

Our Certificate Students (top)
The Certificate
can be a particularly valuable credential for students in disciplinary
doctoral programs wishing to teach in Women's Studies. Certificate students
are enrolled in master's, doctoral and professional programs
such as:
· Art Education
· Counseling
· English
· Geography
· German
· History
· Law
· Musicology
· Political Science
· Psychology
· Romance Languages and Literature
· Sociology
· Speech Communication
The Certificate also provides evidence of expertise in women's
and gender issues for those entering the workforce. Non-degree-seeking
students may also apply to the Certificate program. Our non-degree students have
included teachers, social service providers, attorneys and business people
seeking training and credentialing.
