Friends of Women's Studies sponsors a variety of
programs and grants. Through an endowment raised by Friends, it has funded
one or more renowned Visiting
Professors (pdf 53KB) to offer courses, seminars,
and lectures for the Department each year since 1983. Completion of its
Capital Campaign will result in converting its Visiting Professor program
into a permanent Endowed Chair. Since 1982, it has honored three to five
UC Distinguished Alumnae (pdf 84KB) each year as part of its annual
program, Women's Studies Presents, which was designed to
showcase Women's Studies faculty research, connect Women's Studies students
with distinguished alumnae, and acquaint the community on and
off campus with the work of Friends and the Department. Starting in the 2002/03
year, Friends is participating in a revised alumnae awards program and
a new series of discussions, Women in Dialogue. Each fall, it also hosts
a Friends Reception to recruit new members and connect current members.
Through its Library
Fund (pdf 39KB), it enables members and non-members to purchase library
books in honor or memory of important persons in the contributors' lives
to add to the Women's Studies collection in UC's
Langsam Library. Friends may also donate books of their own to the
library.
