The Women's Studies faculty at UC consists of core, affiliate and adjunct members. Faculty members who have full, joint, or part-time appointments in the Department of Women's Studies are core faculty members. Affiliate are faculty members with academic appointments across the university who teach or do research in women's studies or advise Women's Studies students and serve on MA research project committees or Women's Studies governance committees. Core faculty are appointed by the department and affiliate faculty apply to the Women's Studies Governance Committee for affiliate status.
The Department of Women's Studies has a growing number of core faculty, including four full-time appointments and several joint appointments. Almost 100 faculty members serve as affiliates, making ours one of the largest Women's Studies affiliate faculty in the country. Also among our undergraduate teaching faculty are graduate students in Women's Studies and adjuncts, who are either our graduates or specialists in some aspect of women's studies.
Our strong and highly interdisciplinary core faculty members teach the majority of required graduate and undergraduate courses as well as courses in their specialties, and our affiliates, many of whom are renowned scholars in their fields, provide a wide array of electives from which to choose.
