Committees
The School oversees committees to facilitate communication between the SWLC and its federated departments and programs. If you are interested in contacting or serving on these committees please contact Lowanne Jones (lowanne.jones@uc.edu).
SWLC Research Committee
- Establish an annual research colloquium for faculty and graduate students in the School
- Facilitate dialogues across departments and programs about research activities, grant opportunities
SWLC Basic Language Instruction Committee
The Basic Language Instruction Committee is comprised of all foreign language program coordinators in the various units and programs affiliated with the School
- Recommend effective guidelines to unit heads for the scheduling of language courses, curricular development, TA training and workloads, etc.;
- Recommend how best to utilize the Language Resource Center, Valentine House, etc.
- Explore new collaborative initiatives for outreach and revenue generation, including language immersion programs and summer language offerings
- Annually assess student interest in foreign language acquisition and learning outcomes in language courses
Undergraduate Committee: This committee is comprised of all directors of undergraduate programs (majors, minors, and certificates) in the units and programs affiliated with the School.
- Recommend which interdisciplinary programs and courses should be offered though CASP (e.g., Intro to European Studies; Intro to World Film Studies)
- Coordinate undergraduate student advising
- Recommend the development and promotion of undergraduate curricular offerings
- Facilitate scheduling of courses in support of interdisciplinary undergraduate programs (majors, minors, certificates)
- Increase opportunities for Study Abroad.
Graduate Committee: This committee will be comprised of the directors of graduate programs in the units and programs affiliated with the School, including affiliated certificate programs.
- Recommend which interdisciplinary graduate programs and graduate courses should be offered though CASP (European Studies; Film courses, etc.)
- Facilitate scheduling of courses in support of interdisciplinary graduate programs
- Coordinating graduate student advising
- Assess the impact and success of interdisciplinary graduate programs affiliated with the SWLC
Community Outreach and Development Committee
This committee will be comprised of at least one representative from each department/area studies program affiliated with the School and a representative of the college development staff.
- Coordinate outreach activities
- Promote the SWLC in the local community and in the broader region
- Pursue development opportunities in support of the mission and goals of the SWLC.
