Certificate in Italian Language and Culture Students working toward an undergraduate degree at UC as well as non-degree students (e.g., graduate students, non-students) can earn a certificate in Italian Language and Culture. Degree Program Requirements 1. Language Requirement Students must take intensive or non-intensive sequences in Italian language through ITAL253; in other words, students must take either ITAL102-103-251-252-253 (19 credits) or ITAL113-114-115-116-251-252-253 (21 credits). As indicated in the list of core courses below, some of the elementary / beginning Italian sequences count toward the certificate, but neither ITAL101 nor ITAL111-112 does; they are considered prerequisites. Since a maximum of 21 credits in Italian language can be counted toward the certificate, a minimum of 9 credits must be earned in non-language courses. 2. History Requirement 2. Students must take one of two history courses, HIST594 (Renaissance Italy) or HIST5** (Modern Italy, a new course). Since neither history course will be offered until 2007-08, students graduating before then will not be required to take either of them; instead they will select another elective from the courses below.
