Undergraduate Studies | Personnel and Industrial Relations Download the Personnel/Industrial Relations Major Guide [doc] Personnel and Industrial Relations Personnel and industrial relations is an interdisciplinary major that combines psychology, labor and industrial relations/human resource management and business administration. The multi-disciplinary approach allows students to acquire a variety of analytical tools that can be applied to careers in business and industry. Career Opportunities This major is a professional program designed specifically for students interested in entering careers in personnel and industrial relations; positions in these areas are found in a wide range of businesses, industries and social services from the health care field to the entertainment industry. Like students who graduate with other liberal arts majors, graduates with a BA in personnel and industrial relations are prepared for many other career options, or they may use the major as an excellent base for a professional degree in business or law. The Program To be accepted as a PIR major you must have received a grade of at least "C" in 15-PSYC-274 (Intro to Stats) 15-PSYC-275 (Intermediate Stats) and 15-PSYC-381 (Research Methods). Students pursing this option have considerable flexibility in designing a curriculum consonant with their career goals. However, of the 72 hours in the field of concentration, 42 must be in Psychology, and a minimum of 9 hours each must be taken in LER/HUMR and business administration. The remaining 12 hours may be in LER/HUMR and/or business administration. Students are encouraged to consult regularly with their academic adviser as they plan their course of studies. For further information, please consult the Personnel/Industrial Relations Program descriptions available in the Department of Psychology, 429 Dyer.
