Improving You Job Marketability While You’re In College

There is much you can do while you are in college that will enhance your career options.  In fact, the actions you take while in college determine the type of job that you will obtain later.  You will want to start off with a job that begins to build your career and we will discuss how you can maximize the chances of making this happen.

Optimizing your opportunities:

  • Get to know your faculty.
  • Take coursework that supports your plans.
  • Get to know and use resources that can assist you.
    • Career services * Campus library * Internship * Alumni * Current psychology majors * Faulty * Internet
  • Participate in at least one internship if not more.
  • Volunteer some of your time and talent to campus or community organizations.

What else should you consider?

  • Build your skills
    • Communication—oral/written
    • Computer—Word and SPSS
    • Research Skill
    • Problem Solving
    • Independent Thinking
  • Participate in extracurricular activities.
  • Keep an open mind about your possibilities.
  • Develop an attitude.
  • Be savvy about your job search.
