Connie Boehner - I graduated with my BA from the Department of Psychology in June of 1996.  I had been inducted into Psi Chi in 1995 and was the UC chapter president my senior year.  I thoroughly enjoyed my two years in Psi Chi and felt that it was an invaluable part of my undergraduate education.   Through the various activities, I made many good friends and had the opportunity to get to know most of the faculty.  I also learned how to navigate my way through the graduate school application process (which is quite arduous), how to present research at conferences and how to survive, and even flourish, in graduate school.  My involvement in Psi Chi has also led me to serve in several positions of leadership in graduate school, including Co-President of the Psychology Graduate Student Association and Student Representative to both the General and Clinical Psychology Faculties.   These experiences have been a valuable part of my graduate training and professional growth.

Currently, I am a fifth year student in the Clinical Psychology Graduate Program at UC and I am preparing to go on my yearlong internship.  In addition, I am working on completing my dissertation, which investigates the psychological, medical and social factors that affect the acceptance of Sexually Transmitted Disease vaccines.  I expect to graduate with my Ph. D. in 2002.  While my graduate requirements keep me very busy, I still enjoy stopping by meetings or bake sales to talk to new members of Psi Chi and encourage them in their psychology pursuits.  I believe very strongly that membership in Psi Chi is a valuable experience for any psychology major.  This is particularly true if you hope to go on to a graduate school career in psychology.

Emily Muthard - I graduated with a BA in Psychology during Spring Quarter of 2000. I am currently attending the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign as a first year graduate student in the doctoral program of the Perception and Performance Division. I am presently working on my first year project under the advising of Chris Wickens, Ph.D. This project focuses on the effectiveness of automation in aviation by informing a pilot about weather, terrain, and traffic risks. As an undergraduate, I was inducted into Psi Chi During Spring Quarter of my junior year. During my senior year, I worked as the fundraising officer, and I was also on the Faculty Appreciation Day and Library committees. During this time as a Psi Chi member, I gained a large amount of knowledge about how to approach the responsibilities that awaited me during my graduate school and my professional career. As a member of this organization, I was able to interact with faculty members, make suggestions about courses and the structure of the program, and learn about applying to graduate school. By becoming an active member of the psychology program and Psi Chi, I was able to increase my chances of successfully continuing my career in psychology. As I continue to work toward the goals that I have set for myself, I often look back to the base of knowledge I gained at UC and through Psi Chi. These future goals include obtaining my masters degree and Ph.D. in human factors. After completing this program, I hope to earn a job in the aviation industry designing controls and displays.
