Ohio Valley History
Ohio Valley History is a collaboration of the Cincinnati Museum Center, the Filson Historical Society, and the University of Cincinnati. It is a regional scholarly journal that focuses on the history and culture of the Ohio Valley region, which includes all or portions of the states of Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, Tennessee, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania. Issues feature articles, photo essays, and reviews of books, movies and exhibits relating to the greater Ohio Valley. Ohio Valley History replaces the previously published journals, The Filson Historical Quarterly and Queen City Heritage. With some 6,500 subscribers, it is the largest regional journal in the country.
From its inception in Spring 2000 and the collaboration in Spring 2003, Ohio Valley History has taken a broader view of the region’s history than is possible within the scope of state journals in the region. Its authors attend to issues of national importance as opposed to matters of strictly local interest. Our board of editors is composed of many of the best scholars in the field in the United States. Issues of Ohio Valley History include two or three researched and refereed articles, as well as review essays (whether of monographs, museum exhibits, films, or history-related events), and perhaps news and commentary on issues relevant to the Ohio Valley’s past. Our articles have a reputation for providing readable scholarship of the highest quality without sacrificing the journal’s appeal to an educated lay readership.
