German Studies Major – 54 hours
Students intending to major in German Studies will take 54 credit hours beyond the basic language courses.
Pre-Requisite Courses: All students must satisfy the A&S Basic Language requirement in German, by either taking or placing out of GRMN 101-2-3 and GRMN 201-2-3 or GRMN 104-5-6.
All students must take the following courses (30 credit hours):
- GRMN 321-2-3 (3 credits per quarter for a total of 9 credit hours): Topics in German Language and Culture
- GRMN 341-2-3 (3 credits per quarter for a total of 9 credit hours): Introduction to German Studies
- GRMN 421-2-3 (3 credits per quarter for a total of 9 credit hours): Advanced Topics in German Language and Culture
- GRMN 491-2-3 (1 credit hour per quarter for a total of 3 credit hours): Capstone Experience; or GRMN 481-2-3 (1 credit hour per quarter for a total of 3 credit hours): Honors Capstone Experience
Electives (24 credit hours):
The remaining 24 credit hours can be selected from among any of the courses offered by the German Studies Department. A minimum of 12 elective credit hours must be from courses taught in the German language at the 300-level or above.
Students may select the remaining 24 credit hours from the following:

departmental courses taught in English at the 200-level or higher such
