Scholarships & Financial Aid

The German Department annually bestows a number of awards on its undergraduate students in recognition of scholarship and contributions to German cultural life on campus and in the community. The presentations are presented at the departmental Award's Ceremony at the end of spring quarter.


UC SCHOLARSHIPS AND AWARDS

Lena K. Suter Scholarships
Each year scholarships of between $500 and $5000 are awarded to outstanding German Studies majors and minors. An application letter of no more than two pages outlining applicant's reasons for choosing German as a course of study should be handed to the departmental secretary by February 18.

A&S Scholarships
The College of Arts and Sciences awards numerous scholarship for academic excellence. Application information is available at http://www.artsci.uc.edu/scholarship/

The Poll Prize
A cash prize of $1000 is awarded annually to the outstanding senior or seniors majoring in German Studies. No application is necessary.

The Helga Daley Award
Students who major or minor in German Studies are eligible for a cash award of up to $500 to participate in the department's Munich or Berlin Study Abroad Programs. No application is necessary.

Taft Enrichment Award
Students of A&S Taft departments may apply for cash awards of up to $2000 for study abroad or other departmentally approved projects. Application information is available at http://www.artsci.uc.edu/taft/awards/ugradEnrich.html

IGSA (Institute for Global Studies and Affairs) Awards
Students may apply for cash awards of up to $500 for study abroad. Application information is available at http://www.uc.edu/global

The German-American Citizen League of Cincinnati Prize
This cash prize is given annually to an outstanding undergraduate majoring or minoring in German. No application is necessary.

The Department of German Studies Prize
Each year the Department of German Studies presents these book prizes to the top German language students regardless of major. No application is necessary.

The Lessing Society Book Award
This book prize is presented annually to a promising junior majoring in German. No application is necessary.


EXTERNAL AWARDS

Junior Year Abroad
In conjunction with Wayne State University, this department each year offers a full scholarship for an academic year of study at the University of Munich. Interested students should contact Professor Todd Herzog.

DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst) Scholarships and Grants
The DAAD offers a number of scholarships and awards to well-qualified undergraduate students who wish to study, complete internships, or do thesis research in Germany. Interested students should contact Professor Todd Herzog.

The German American Chamber of Commerce of the Midwest Award
The German American Chamber of Commerce of the Midwest in Chicago offers opportunities for US students to intern in Germany. Interested students should contact Professor Todd Herzog.
