A Close Reading”

the Kade

are invited to come to the Max Kade German Cultural Center to meet the
faculty and to learn more about departmental programs, such as the major,
the minor, study abroad, and international co-op. Refreshments are provided.
Focus
Graduate Student Conference
Graduate students in the Department of German Studies organize a conference
in the fall, in which graduate students from this country and abroad
come together for two days of paper presentations and discussions. Participants
are selected on the basis of proposals submitted to the Editor of Focus
on German Studies, the departmental graduate student journal.
Brown Bag
Lunches
Once a quarter faculty members and graduate students come together for
a brown bag lunch, at which one member of the faculty presents his/her
current research.
German

Every year the Department of German Studies invites area high school
teachers to bring their German classes to UC for a day of competitions
in areas ranging from baked goods to posters, and from poetry recitations
to cultural knowledge. Information for German Day 2008 has been posted at the link above.
