Master of Arts

The Master of Arts tracks in Literature and Creative Writing are intended to orient students broadly to current critical trends in a number of areas of study. In each course professors assign a combination of key texts and recent criticism in order to involve students in current disciplinary discussions. At the end of the program, students should be ready to write publishable essays. Students in the creative writing track combine their workshop hours with critical courses to become thoroughly versed in the maerials that will ultimately make them better writers. Many MA creative writers publish poems, stories, and literary nonfiction by the time they complete their degrees.

The Professional Writing and Editing track combines practical application with rigorous course work. Students gain professional experience through classes in technical areas and the required internship, and receive broad-based academic grounding from classes in theory, rhetoric, and research.
