PhD Program Admission Requirements

-An MA in English from an accredited university or college.
-A GPA of approximately 3.75 in MA coursework.
-A minimum score of 600 on the Verbal and Analytical sections of the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) general test, and a minimum score of 500 on the GRE subject test (Literature in English). The subject test is requires of all applicants to this program.
-Strong writing samples-- Applicants should also include a 10-15 page analytical sample (a literary analysis or a research paper), along with up to 20 pages in your area of concentration. Creative writing applicants should submit 2 short stories or a chapter of a novel, or 20 pages of poetry or an act of a play.
**All applications are given careful and individual review. In some cases, students who do not have the minimum GPAs and GRE scores may be admitted.

-Three letters of recommendation from former teachers and/or supervisors
-Recent GRE scores (applicants to the PhD program must also supply scores for the Literature in English subject test)
-A letter of application, stating academic goals and professional objectives, and any interest in financial aid
-Complete academic transcripts
-Writing Samples
