Scholarships Awarded by Economics
Hewett-Kautz
Fellowship Scholarships Upper division undergraduate Economics
and Business Economics majors are eligible to apply
for Hewett-Kautz Fellowships. Each scholarship carries a stipend that pays between 33% and 100% of full in-state tuition and fees for the next academic year.
The Fellowships are made possible by the generosity
of Mr. James C. Kautz, a graduate of the department
and now a partner in the Wall Street firm of Goldman,
Sachs and Co. to show his appreciation for the education
he received and especially to honor William W. Hewett,
late Professor and Head of Economics.
The Hewett-Kautz Fellowships are intended to help
academically promising students of economics in financing
their education, as demonstrated by their academic
records and the interest and aptitude they have shown
in the economics. Applications for the Hewett-Kautz
Fellowships are typically accepted each year during
the first several weeks of the Spring quarter.

Citicorp
Economics Scholarships
Citicorp Financial Center, Inc provides the Citicorp
Scholarships. Each scholarship pays $1,000 of the
student’s tuition. Eligibility is limited to students
majoring in Economics or Business Economics. Criteria
for the awards are excellent performance in Economics
101-02 and financial need. Newly declared majors,
with limited track record in economics courses for
majors but outstanding performances in introductory
level economics courses are particularly encouraged
to apply. Applications for the Citicorp Scholarships
are typically accepted each year during the first
several weeks of the Spring quarter. Application

Edwin
L. and Carrie Frank Prize. Since
1966, the Department of Economics has awarded the
Edwin L. and Carrie Frank Prize. The award is supported
by Mrs. Carol L. Levitan, daughter of the late Edwin
L. And Carrie Frank. The late Edwin L. Frank was a
graduate of this department. His major interest was
finance, and he became the first over-the-counter
broker in Ohio. The prize pays $1,000 of the student’s
tuition. This award recognizes an outstanding Senior
in the Department of Economics. The sole criterion
is academic excellence as a student in the Department
of Economics.

Caroline Kautz Book Prize
Upper
division Economics and Business Economics majors
may apply for Caroline Kautz Book Prize.
The prize reimburses costs of textbooks for
one year. Criteria
for the size of awards are the applicant’s academic record,
financial need, interest and aptitude in economics, and active
participation in the activities of undergraduate economics students
(Economics Society).The prize is made possible by the generosity
of Mr. And Mrs. James C. Kautz.

the core courses for Economics and Business Economics
majors (Economics 320, 321, 341, 342, 372, and 599) up
to a maximum of $500. Criteria for the awards are excellent performance in Economics
