our graduate program

.

Are you interested in getting more training in economics, but don’t want to spend four or five years earning a Ph.D.? Are you interested in mastering new economic and quantitative skills that can be immediately applied in the marketplace? Are you interested in a professional degree that will launch you into a new high paying career, or jump-start your current one? Then we urge you to consider our MA in Applied Economics.

Practical, relevant and applied
Our program was expressly designed to meet the growing need in both the private and public sectors for technically well-trained analysts with a strong background in economics and advanced quantitative methods. The roughly 18 month program (normally five quarters) provides you with a strong background in economic theory and quantitative methods, with a special emphasis placed on providing relevant, applied knowledge that can be quickly translated into practice, both while in the program and after graduation. It is an intellectually stimulating program that will provide you with the confidence and skills to succeed as an economic or financial analyst, market researcher or in another related profession.

Flexible
You will also find that the program is very flexible. Both part-time and full-time students are welcome and we offer most of our classes in the mid to late afternoons to accommodate working professionals. Students take most of their classes in the economics department, but can and do pursue their own areas of interest in the departments of Quantitative Analysis, Finance, Math, Geography, etc.

Career building
Our program is intended primarily as a terminal professional degree, rather than as preparation for a Ph.D. program. As such, the program provides important workplace skills in economic and data analyses, hones oral and written communication skills, and builds teamwork skills. Your efforts in the program will be rewarded, our placement rate over the past few years has been nearly perfect.
