News
Research
and projects from the Institute are frequently referenced
in the press throughout the Cincinnati region and beyond.
Recent examples include:
Delta
Cuts Jobs
As
reported in the “Business Courier” on September
16, 2005 Institute research suggested the expected 26
percent service reduction at the Greater Cincinnati
Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) brings
with it the potential loss of 3,300 jobs in the Greater
Cincinnati regional economy and a decrease in household
earnings of $110 million.
Employment
Growth Lags the Nation
Institute
research published in the “Business Courier”
on September 9, 2005 highlighted how local job growth
now trails the U.S. and that for the first time in 21
years, the local unemployment rate has climbed above
the U.S. comparable.
Salary
Cuts Ripple Throughout the Economy
Salary
reductions at Delta Airlines are forecast to spread
throughout the Greater Cincinnati region. As reported
in the “Cincinnati Enquirer” the $71.2 million
in salary reductions could have large employment and
tax revenue implications. Based on Institute research,
region wide jobs losses could approach 5,000 in industries
aligned closely with the important air transportation
industry.
Retail
Spending Leakages
A
recently completed Institute study found significant
retail sales leakages in Dearborn County, Indiana, the
home of Argosy Casino. The analysis was conducted for
the Dearborn County Economic Development Initiative
as a planning tool for future development. See the story
in the “Cincinnati Enquirer” on June 9,
2005.
