Welcome
to the Department of Economics at the University of
Cincinnati. Well-known throughout the University for
its high-quality teaching, we also have a strong and
improving research reputation.
For the undergraduate, economics is a fascinating subject,
poised on the intersection between social science and
business, and with great relevance for a wide range
of public policy issues. Whether it is merely taking
a few courses or choosing economics as a major, you
will find economics an excellent preparation for careers
in business and government and for further graduate
and professional study.
For the graduate student, the department offers an exceptional
MA in Applied Economics that is practical, flexible
and career building. The degree provides students with
a solid foundation in economic theory and a very strong
background in applied techniques. The degree has proved
to be the tool that opened up a wide variety of career
opportunities in both the public and private sectors
for our graduate students.
Our department consists of a small but professionally
active faculty, who has a wide range of research interests
and who often pursue joint research. The strongest areas
in the department lie in applied econometrics and applied
microeconomics. Areas of application include international
trade, industrial organization, environmental economics,
urban development and labor economics. The department
also has a small but crucial group of macroeconomists.
This is an exciting time to study and do economics at
Cincinnati. We have redefined our mission and redoubled
our teaching and research efforts. We hope you will
join us as we continue to move forward with a new sense
of purpose and collegiality.
