Journalism Scholarships

Alana Frew

Alana Frew, Journalism Senior

What is journalism in the digital age? At UC, the Department of Journalism is exploring this question while providing students the foundational skills they need to be successful. The ability to offer privately-funded scholarships gives the department the resources it needs to recruit, retain and empower some of the brightest students at UC who will apply the education they receive here to help reshape the industry.

Alana Frew is an example of one of these students. A graduating senior, she has the writing, reporting and social media skills that are so needed in the industry. Here’s how the David and Michael Altman Scholarship helped her:

Receiving a scholarship from the Department of Journalism over the past two years has been a blessing,” Frew says. “The first time I received the Altman Scholarship, I had never felt so gratified in my entire life. “Donors give us the determination to keep going and move forward with the goal we are striving for: to get a college degree, and to move on to a productive career after graduation. I am always grateful that I chose to attend UC, and I know I would not be where I am today without the support of the Department of Journalism and the scholarship support they provide.”

Please make a donation today to support a student like Alana! You can specify The David and Michael Altman Journalism Scholarship Fund for Investigative Journalism or The Jon Hughes Freshman Photojournalism Scholarship Fund for Photojournalism in the box in the online form.

Thank you in advance for your time, attention, and support of UC’s Department of Journalism. Please contact Chris Eden in the McMicken College of Arts & Sciences Office of Development with questions, or to learn more about how you can support the Department of Journalism.
