UC's Jeffrey Blevins, an associate professor of journalism, will speak on 'Manufacturing Truth: The Political Economy of Fake News, Bots and Double-Speak.' from 3-5 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 14, in Room 407 of the Teachers/Dyer Complex.
UC’s Department of Journalism may be just 5 years old. But, department head Dr. Jeff Blevins noted, the University has been shaping impactful, mindful journalism for the majority of its existence — ever since the 1880 founding of the Belatrasco student newspaper, which in 1936 became the News Record.
What is journalism in the digital age? At UC, the Department of Journalism is exploring this question while providing students the foundational skills they need to be successful. The ability to offer privately-funded scholarships gives the department the resources it needs to recruit, retain and empower some of the brightest students at UC who will apply the education they receive here to help reshape the industry.
