Professional Summary

Rachel Steiger-Meister is a doctoral candidate in Fiction Writing, with scholarly focuses in Irish folklore and fantastic literature. She holds a B.A. with Honors in Gender Studies from Brown University and an M.A. in English Literature from Wright State University. Rachel is the winner of the 2013 storySouth Million Writers Award for best online short story of 2012 and received Carve Magazine’s 2012 Esoteric Award for LGBT-themed fiction. In 2011 she was the guest fiction editor of the “Fairy Tales” issue of Lavender Review. She has presented her critical work and fiction at The International Conference for the Fantastic in the Arts, Sirens conference for women in fantasy literature, the &Now Festival of New Writing, and Lesbian Lives conferences in Ireland and the UK. At UC, Rachel has taught courses in fiction writing, fantasy writing, and LGBTQ literature. She is a 2014-2015 Charles Phelps Taft dissertation fellow.​
