ENGL 1000 Introduction to English Composition

A first-year general education course, English 1000 emphasizes critical reading and thinking strategies, textual analysis and writing with a focus on increasing fluency with the composing processes and strengthening rhetorical awareness. Students are placed into the course on the basis of their English Placement Test score (ENPT).

ENGL 1001 English Composition

A first-year general education course, English 1001 emphasizes critical reading and writing with a special focus on argument and research-based writing. Students are placed into the course on the basis of their  ACT/SAT or English Placement Test score (ENPT).

ENGL 1012 Advanced First Year Composition

A first-year general education course, English 1012, Advanced First-year Composition, emphasizes critical reading and writing with a special focus on argument and research-based writing. In addition, English 1012 requires students to participate in active learning through service-learning projects, experiential learning activities, digital mediums, or other activities designed to enhance classroom-based learning.  Students are placed into the course on the basis of their ACT/SAT or English Placement Test scores.

ENGL 2089 Intermediate Composition

Intermediate English Composition, English 2089, emphasizes critical reading and writing, advanced research and argument skills, and rhetorical understanding of language as it is used in different discourse communities.  Students analyze, compare, and evaluate rhetorical strategies specific to a discourse community, and interpret, assess, and write within a variety of genres to understand how meaning is made, communicated, and debated.  Prerequisites: Completion of 1001, 1012, or the transfer equivalent, plus 30 semester credits.
