INTERN IN COMMUNICATION

Communication majors can greatly enhance their educational experience while in college by conducting an internship in a field they are interested in exploring. Multiple internships in different careers in communication serve to both strengthen a students resume and prepare them for the professional world.

• Requirements for internship:
• Must be a Communication major in good standing.
• Must have attained Junior Status.
• Completion of the pre-requisite course Careers in Communication (188).
• Registered for Internship class (391).

Once placed in an intern position, the student is expected to work 90 hours in order to receive three college credit hours. A typical internship will require ten hours a week for nine weeks time; however, other more appropriate or mutually desirable arrangements can be made. All interns will meet as a class three times during the quarter to discuss the progress of the internship. Interns will turn in bi-monthly reports, time sheets, a supervisor evaluation and a poster of the internship experience. The most satisfactory internship experiences come from clear expectations and portfolio building work.

All potential and current intern supervisors and interns for the year are invited to attend the COMMCELEB Honors Day reception held every year at the end of Spring Quarter. COMMCELEB will be held on May 25, 2005 for the 2004-2005 school year. Department of Communication Faculty, Students and Friends attend the reception. An Internship Poster session displays some of the outstanding work done by student interns each year.

To learn more about the intern program or find a potential internship site, visit the Department of Communication Website or email the Director of the Internship program at Lisa.Newman@uc.edu.
