GRIEVANCE PROCEDURES
There are several channels open to students who feel they have legitimate complaints about their experiences in the Department of Communication.
1. If the grievance involves a member of the Communication faculty (full and part-time), or teaching assistant with whom you may be working, or member of the staff, first try to discuss your concerns with that individual. Most people are reasonable, if approached in a mature manner.
2. If this route cannot be taken for some reason, or if the matter is
not resolved to your satisfaction, you may elect to consult the Director
of Undergraduate Studies Lisa Newman Lisa.Newman@uc.edu
and/or the Department Head Dr. Teresa Sabourin teresa.sabourin@uc.edu
3. They will discuss the situation with you and explain your options. In most instances, attempts will be made first to deal with the problem informally. If this action does not resolve the matter, you may file a formal complaint.
PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING: The Department will make every possible effort to assist in resolving your grievances, if given the opportunity. However, keep in mind that the authority of the Department Head and the Director of Undergraduate Studies
is quite limited with regard to the kinds of grievances with which they may deal and so far as applying sanctions is concerned. Their role is primarily to serve as facilitator. If you choose to do so, there are more formal avenues for you to pursue. Consult the A&S College Office, the U.C.
Student Handbook, or the U.C. Ombuds Office for advice.
