	Winter Course Spotlight

15-HIST-666 -- Afghanistan: Crossroads of War and Peace, M,W,F, 1-1:50 p.m. This course explores the history and culture of Afghanistan and its central Asian neighbors from Alexander the Great to the war on terror. We will explore the question of what brought the diverse peoples of Afghanistan together into a single nation, the aspects of Afghan history that created a nation uniquely united while also uniquely divided and what has kept them from breaking apart. Semester Conversion

UC Switching From Quarters to Semesters in Fall 2012
If you graduate before Fall 2012, you will not be affected by the calendar change. If you begin your studies on the quarter calendar and do not graduate before Fall 2012, you will be affected by the change and will be considered a "semester transition student." A&S semester-based program outlines are now available online. Get more information about semester conversion.

Scholarship Alert
Eligible students should apply by Nov. 15 for Goldwater and Truman scholarships. The Goldwater Scholarship is for sophomores and juniors pursuing degrees in math, science or engineering fields who have very high grades and who have done, and want to continue to do, research. The Truman Scholarship is for juniors who want to continue on to graduate school and who have a strong interest in pursuing a career in public service.

Welcome Day Become an A&S Student Ambassador
Interested in gaining public speaking experience? Holding a leadership position? Building your resume? Become a student ambassador for McMicken College. Ambassadors serve as the "face" of the student body and actively engage in college events and programs. Attend an informational meeting Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 6:30 p.m. in 608 Swift.
