Professional Summary

Dr. Harknett is Head and an associate professor of international relations in the Department of Political Science. His publications and research interests focus on international relations theory and international security studies with his most recent worked focused on cybersecurity. He is the past-Chair of the University Faculty and former Chair of the Charles Taft Research Center. He was a Fulbright Professor at the Diplomatic Academy in Vienna, Austria and continues to lecture there.

Research Interests

Research interests focus on international relations theory and international security studies. Specifically, Prof. Harknett examines the dynamics of international security as they relate to nuclear weapons and, recently, the security environment emerging around cyberthreats. Upon completion of a current book project, Nuclear Prominence, Harknett plans a study on types of hegemony focusing on sustainable imbalances of power.
