Commitment to academic excellence is evident throughout McMicken College of Arts and Sciences and in reviews of our high standards of excellence by peers and experts nationwide.

A few recent rankings:

  • U.S. News & World Report ranked UC's graduate paleontology program as seventh-best in the nation in 2007.
  • The archeology program in the Department of Classics ranks in the Top 5 or 10 nationally, according to external reviewers.
  • The Department of Philosophy's graduate program in the Philosophy of Art is ranked ninth nationally by The Philosophical Gourmet, the most influential ranking service for Philosophy graduate programs. The department's program in the Philosophy of Cognitive Science ranks 20th and the program in the Philosophy of Biology ranks 21st.
  • The communication terminal master's program in the Department of Communication is ranked among the best nationally, according to external reviewers.
  • The Department of English was ranked 26th nationwide in 2006 in awarding baccalaureate degrees to African-American students, according to DIVERSE: Issues in Higher Education magazine.
  • The English department's creative writing program was listed as 46th in recent U.S. News and World Report national rankings.
