About the Department
Greetings from Acting Department Head
James A. Stever
Welcome to the Department of Political Science Web site — we appreciate your interest in our programs.
The Department of Political Science offers programs of study leading to the BA degree in the political science and international affairs majors and the MA degree in political science. The political science faculty colleagues are excellent instructors and outstanding research scholars.
The graduate program focuses on American politics and public opinion, as well as international relations and security. This program reflects the active research agendas of our faculty. Our program builds a foundation of theoretical and quantitative political inquiry and then advances work in our focus subject-matters. Our students, a mix of domestic and foreign students, gain from the personal attention of working closely with our faculty and also from the support of our lively graduate student community. Our graduates have an excellent record of job placements.
The undergraduate majors in political science and the interdisciplinary international affairs are popular among students planning on careers in law, education, journalism and public service. The political science majors take classes in: American politics, comparative politics, international relations and political theory.
The international affairs majors follow their interests in the study of: international relations, area studies, international political economy, foreign policy and security. Certificates are available in the international human rights and security studies. In addition, the department sponsors Model UN teams and holds a Model APEC event once a year.
We look forward to your involvement and contribution to the department.
Sincerely,
James A. Stever
Professor, Acting Head
