Lucille Pederson Scholarship Fund in Communication

In 2006, Emeritus Professor Dr. Lucille Pederson established a scholarship for communication majors interested in interpersonal and family communication. A quarterly essay contest is conducted to determine the winners who are recognized each year at COMMCeleb.

The Autumn Lucille Pederson Scholarship Essay Contest

Purpose: To promote the study of interpersonal and family communication.

Award: $500 toward tuition or student fees.

Eligibility: Communication major must have achieved the rank of junior and have at least one quarter left before graduation and a minimum 2.75/4.0 GPA.

Requirements: The Lucille Pederson Scholarship candidate must provide:

  1. A cover sheet with your name, phone number & email address.
  2. A copy of your current Degree Progress Audit.
  3. An Essay, in no more than one typed page which:
    • Describes how you currently use or hope to use lessons from interpersonal communication to make a difference?
    • Explains why this scholarship would be meaningful to you in terms of financial need, scholastic motivation or other reasons?

Rudolph F. and Kathleen S. Verderber Challenge
Scholarship Fund

This scholarship is awarded to an outstanding junior in Communication to cover tuition for one quarter of their senior year. Applicants must demonstrate leadership and be in good standing in all coursework and major coursework.

Frank M. Jones Scholarship

The Frank M. Jones Scholarship is awarded each Spring by the Department of Communication to students majoring in Communication who are about to enter their senior year of coursework. The scholarship, which has been awarded since 1979, recognizes all-around academic excellence. To be eligible, students must have Junior standing (95 1/2 to 139 1/2 credits), must have at least a 3.0 overall GPA, and must have completed at least 18 credits in Communication. Scholarships are not applied for--they are determined each year by faculty vote. 1996 Scholarship winner Steven Weintraub has donated an engraved plaque to commemorate winners of the past, present, and future.
