Professional Summary
Biography: John Lynch is an assistant professor of communication at the University of Cincinnati, who teaches in the rhetoric and public communication area. He received his PhD in 2005 from the University of Georgia, his MA from the University of Pittsburgh in 2000, and his BA from the University of Dayton in 1998. Before coming to the University of Cincinnati in 2006, he taught at Vanderbilt University. Research Areas: Dr. Lynch's teaching and research interests focus on the rhetoric of science and medicine, especially on how the public understands science. During his doctoral work, he was a member of the University of Georgia's Health & Heritage Project that examined lay attitudes toward the intersection of genetics, race and medicine. His current research project expands on his dissertation and examines the scientific and political debates about embryonic stem cell research. His work has appeared in Rhetoric & Public Affairs, Social Science & Medicine, Health Communication, American Journal of Medical Genetics, Public Understanding of Science, Genetics in Medicine and the American Journal of Medical Genetics.
