Editorial Assistants for 2006-2007
The Graduate School and the Office of Research are pleased to announce the competition for the 2006-07 Editorial Assistantships. Applications from faculty serving as editors of scholarly journals will be accepted by me in the Graduate School office no later than January 6, 2006. Each student receiving an Editorial Assistantship will be awarded a University Graduate Scholarship (UGS) and an $11,000 stipend for 10 months.
Only journal editors whose applications have been reviewed by the Graduate Student Awards Committee will be eligible to receive the services of a graduate assistant. The assistantships are awarded for one year; they may be renewed in subsequent years only if selected and recommended by the Committee through the formal application process each year. Generally, there is a three-year limit on receiving an Editorial Assistant for a journal not permanently housed at the University of Cincinnati. At the end of the annual award period, the editor will be required to submit a brief report accounting for the advantages of the award to the University and experiential benefits of the assistantship to the student.
The Graduate Student Awards Committee will review applications based on the criteria described on the attached page. The application must include the following documents to be considered by the Committee:
1. eight (8) copies of the completed application form (attached);
2. eight (8) copies of a letter addressing all criteria (listed on the attached page), with a separate paragraph addressing each lettered criterion;
3. eight (8) copies of a letter of support from the program director or dean, whomever is appropriate;
4. eight (8) copies of the report on the previous year's award (if this is an application for renewal);
5. a recent copy of the journal.
